Aquapalooza – Coming to a Lake Near you!
For the fifth time in a row since its debut in 2006, AquaPalooza broke its own records in 2010 with an amazing total of approximately 15,600 boats and 90,000 people showing up to share in a grand celebration of the boating lifestyle. In the past five years, AquaPalooza has more than tripled in size!
If you don't already know, AquaPalooza is the name given to a series of on-water celebrations held during the last two weekends in July at more than 100 locations around the world. Created by Sea Ray Boats, AquaPalooza is free and open to all boaters and non-boaters. Each gathering features fun activities for family and friends of all ages, such as live entertainment, games, giveaways and much more.
Thousands of country music fans bobbed in the waters of Lake Travis in late July for the AquaPalooza main event, a free two-day music event accessible only by boat.
They came armed with canoes, water noodles, inner tubes and anything else that would keep them afloat while they waited for the big attraction: country music star Brad Paisley, who took the stage about 5 p.m.
Dubbed the world's largest on-water celebration, AquaPalooza was expected to attract about 4,000 boats and 35,000 people.
The boats were moored in orderly rows behind what essentially became a floating mosh pit in front of the stage on land.
A total of 15 people were arrested during the event, mostly for drinking-related violations. Eight were charged with boating while intoxicated, two with driving while intoxicated and another two with resisting arrest. One person was arrested on a warrant; and another was charged with possession of a controlled substance. No drownings and only a few minor injuries were reported.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department had an armada of 16 vessels and over 40 officers to patrol the event.
