More "interesting" boating safety education laws

By Gail Kulp posted 10-25-2012 01:22 PM

A new law was recently passed requiring only Suffolk County, NY boaters to pass a boating safety course to operate a boat or PWC, thereby making it the only country-specific mandatory education location (to my knowledge) in the country.

Now, the state of New Jersey is looking into requiring at least five questions on boat capacity, capacity plates and overloading be added to the state's mandatory boating education exams. While each state has requirements about their own state-specific information and how many additional questions need to be added to the final exams, I don't know if any of the other states went so far as to have a bill proposed to the state legislature in order to accomplish this. A copy of the bill is available at this link.

So, what are your thoughts on these recent interesting boating safety education laws/proposals?
