RADM John P. Nadeau provided the keynote U.S. Coast Guard presentation at the 58th Annual NASBLA Conference in Rapid City, South Dakota on Sunday, September 10th.

RADM Nadeau and other U.S. Coast Guard representatives from the Boating Safety Division attended the annual conference and met with boating law administrators and recreational boating safety advocates from multiple states and territories. Following the conference, RADM Nadeau thanked NASBLA and the States for their work in recreational boating safety.

"Many thanks to the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) for inviting me to address members at their 58th Annual Conference. The Coast Guard relies on the individual States to execute the lion's share of the work for the National Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) program," said RADM John P. Nadeau, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, U.S. Coast Guard.

"Last year, the States provided 2,100,000 hours of on-water RBS operations, participated in nearly 12,000 search & rescue cases, and educated more that 500,000 boaters. Law enforcement and outreach efforts to fight Boating Under the Influence (BUI) removed over 500 intoxicated boaters from the water in a single weekend during Operation Dry Water. There is still more work to do, but the Coast Guard/NASBLA partnership is making a difference."
