Lieutenant Curtis Lewis - NASBLA Chair
During its 64th Annual Conference, held in Denver, Colorado, Sept. 19 – 22, 2023, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) elected Lieutenant Curtis Lewis, Boating Law Administrator for Illinois, as chair of the organization for the 2023-2024 year. He succeeds Susan Stocker, Iowa's Boating Law Administrator. NASBLA is a national nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that works to develop public policy for recreational boating safety. NASBLA represents the recreational boating authorities of all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

Lt. Lewis is a dedicated and accomplished Illinois Conservation Police Lieutenant with over 23 years of extensive proactive and collaborative law enforcement experience. As the Illinois Conservation Police Training Lieutenant, Lewis implemented changes to increase professionalism in the training and certification of new officers within the Department. He assisted with the development of policies and procedures allowing the Department to embrace needed changes in the interactions between Illinois officers and the boating public.

Lt. Lewis has served as Illinois' BLA since 2020. He is the state's representative to NASBLA and is responsible for being the voice of the state on boating safety matters. In 2021, Lt. Lewis attended the NASBLA Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) Leadership Academy in Lexington, Kentucky, and used this knowledge to actively pursue obtaining the Certified Recreational Boating Professional (CRBP) credential. Later that year, Lt. Lewis was appointed to the NASBLA Executive Board. As a member of the NASBLA Executive Board, he is responsible for moving recreational boating safety forward through education, enforcement, training and policy development on a national level – to the benefit of all states and territories.
