Great Lakes Aquatic Invasive Species Landing Blitz

10-10-2022 02:35 PM

The Great Lakes Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Landing Blitz is a multi-agency, international event coordinated by the Great Lakes Commission to educate boaters and the public about the risks of spreading aquatic invasive species. The Blitz is held annually in early July for a two-week period, providing educational opportunities and a coordinated social media campaign focused on AIS prevention. Local volunteers partner with state and provincial agencies to deliver consistent messaging about preventing the introduction and spread of AIS from the movement of watercraft and equipment between water bodies. Information on these events, including educational materials, locations and volunteer opportunities are posted on this page as they become available.

During the AIS Landing Blitz, ODNR, Ohio Sea Grant, Cleveland Metroparks, and other partners offered educational opportunities for the public to increase AIS knowledge and awareness. Across the Great Lakes, programming included invasive species educational programs, boat checks and boat wash stations, interactive naturalist programs, outreach at fishing tournaments and AIS identification workshops.

Speakers:
Mark Warman, Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Project Coordinator, Cleveland Metroparks
Heather Sheets, Ohio Clean Marinas Program Coordinator, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks & Watercraft
