Floating Homes
The Vessel Identification, Registration & Titling (VIRT) Committee is excited to share the work we have been doing on floating homes. It can be difficult to determine if a vessel is considered a floating home or a houseboat. To assist, the VIRT committee has put together a Best Practice for Program Uniformity - Floating Home vs. Houseboat Checklist. This will help in determining how the vessel should be classified. Additionally, VIRT has developed two best practice letters that states can utilize when corresponding with vessel owners: the Best Practice for Program Uniformity - Floating Home vs. Houseboat - Home Letter and the Best Practice for Program Uniformity - Floating Home vs. Houseboat - Vessel Letter. These can all be found on the VIRT webpage.
