Retired Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer with over 23 years of service. Served as a Lifeboat Surfman conducting Search and Rescue and Marine Law Enforcement operations along the Oregon and Washington coasts in operational and managerial command cadre positions. Previous units include Station Coos Bay OR, Station Depoe Bay OR, Station Chetco River, OR, both seasonal Search and Rescue Detachments at Cold Beach and Bandon OR and as a Surfman instructor at the Coast Guard’s National Motor Lifeboat School at Cape Disappointment WA. Served as Officer in Charge of Station’s Quillayute River WA., and Station Tillamook Bay, OR.
Other tours of duty include Coast Guard Marine Safety Office Anchorage, AK, Marine Safety Detachment St Croix, USVI. US Coast Guard Cutter Seneca, WMEC 906, Boston MA, and Coast Guard Marine Safety Office Anchorage, AK. Upon retirement from the Coast Guard in 2000, worked in the marine environmental response field as the Marine Department Supervisor for Alaska Clean Seas in Prudhoe Bay, AK. In 2004 assumed the current position as the RBS Specialist on the 13th District staff.
Currently serves as the Recreational Boating Safety Specialist for the 13th Coast Guard District in Seattle, WA as the district commander’s direct representative to the state boating programs in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Also oversees the district and Coast Guard Headquarters programs initiatives with other state and federal agencies as well as public organizations, active duty Coast Guard units, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and US Power Squadron. Achievements include certification as a Coast Guard Surfman, #111, in 1980, the Western States Boating Administrators Associations 2009 Hollister award, the 2013 NASBLA Innovation Award. Also holds a 100 ton Coast Guard Masters License since 1984.
